Of all mlm and network marketing trainers we have
found Michael Oliver's to be one of the most useful and most aligned
with the approach that we encourage in ONE
Group and MIessence.
Olver's approach is quite simple and common sense at times but that
is its strength. He draws a simple distinction:
- Traditional selling – which depends on techniques to convince
or persuade people to do (or buy) what you want them to do, as
opposed to
- Natural selling – which he defines as coming
from an inner desire to serve and allow others to "persuade themselves"
before even raising any hint of a business opportunity
The strength of the Natual Selling approach lies in its attempt
to make the forgotten art of connecting with and understanding
people a learnable and duplicatable skill. It emphasises the need
to build real relationships with people rather than simply viewing
them as a "prospects" or means to build your business. In fact
Oliver uses the term "potential business partner" throughout the
book in preference to more traditional mlm terms.

we constantly emphasise that reps should NOT try
to convince people – instead we work with reps to find people who
"are looking". That is working to connect with people with whom

organic products or our organic business
opportunity can be of service too.
So rather than simply trying to push your needs onto people, or
encourage them to work to your agenda... the challenge becomes
to understand what someone really wants before presenting what
you have when and where appropriate.
This is most needed in MLM companies that rely solely on building
a business through your "warm market" or people you know. This
is where the terrible mlm cliche comes from – where mlm at its
worst is when you start with 100 friends and end up with 99 ex
friends and one rep.
Many people do find it hard to raise the opportunity they have
embraced with those who they know. At times reps we work with in ONE Group skirt around this challenge by adopting a
number of business building strategies that allow
reps to connect with people who they do not
know but who are looking
for what we have. So it is interesting that many people in our
team manage to avoid raising their business with those around them,
instead reaching out to and building new networks and communities.

material has been a very valuable tool and one that we would highly
recommend to anyone building an MLM business.
